Underwater Inspection Technician

• Conduct underwater visual inspections of subsea structures, pipelines, risers, jackets, mooring systems, vessels, tanks, and marine facilities.
• Perform inspections using diving equipment, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), cameras, sonar, and other subsea inspection technologies.
• Identify and document corrosion, cracks, coating deterioration, marine growth, deformation, erosion, leaks, weld defects, and other structural anomalies.
• Carry out dimensional measurements, thickness measurements, and other non-destructive testing (NDT) activities where qualified.
• Inspect underwater welds, structural members, anodes, clamps, supports, valves, and subsea equipment.
• Collect photographic, video, measurement, and condition-monitoring data for technical evaluation.
• Prepare accurate inspection reports, including defect descriptions, locations, measurements, photographs, and recommendations.
• Verify inspection activities against approved procedures, drawings, specifications, inspection plans, and applicable standards.
• Work closely with diving supervisors, ROV personnel, engineers, QA/QC teams, and offshore operations personnel.
• Ensure all inspection equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and fit for purpose.
• Immediately report critical defects, unsafe conditions, leaks, or structural integrity concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
• Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, permit-to-work activities, and emergency-response procedures.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and ensure compliance with company HSE and quality requirements.
• SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Diploma, HND, Bachelor’s degree, or relevant technical qualification in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, Diving Technology, or a related field.
• Relevant commercial diving or subsea inspection certification, where applicable.
• NDT certification such as UT, MPI, DPI, or Visual Testing (VT) is an advantage.
• Relevant offshore experience in underwater inspection, marine construction, oil & gas, or subsea operations is preferred.
• Knowledge of applicable offshore, diving, inspection, and structural-integrity standards.
• Valid offshore safety and medical certifications may be required.
• Strong knowledge of underwater inspection methods and subsea structural integrity.
• Ability to identify and assess corrosion, cracking, marine growth, weld defects, and structural deterioration.
• Competence in using underwater cameras, measurement tools, NDT equipment, ROV systems, and inspection software.
• Good understanding of engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and technical specifications.
• Strong report-writing, documentation, communication, and analytical skills.
• High attention to detail and ability to work effectively in challenging offshore and underwater environments.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and procedural compliance.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
