About this role
Denver Seminary is seeking a part-time Tutor - Elementary Math/Reading (Work-Study) to support students at Denver Seminary and at an assigned elementary school chosen by the student. The role offers approximately 1-10 hours per week and involves coordinating with the school to determine tutoring needs, followed by establishing an agreement between Denver Seminary, the student tutor, and the elementary school. The position supports the Seminary’s mission by delivering tutoring in math and/or reading to elementary students on-site at the school or at Denver Seminary if transportation is available, with the tutor never providing transportation to the student.
Responsibilities
- Tutor elementary students in math and/or reading as directed by the student’s teacher and in partnership with the assigned school
- Support students in learning by delivering instruction aligned with the teacher’s guidance
- Relate well to children and create a positive learning environment
- Understand and facilitate 6th grade level math concepts where applicable
Requirements
- Must be a current student in good standing at Denver Seminary and enrolled in a degree program; prior tutoring experience is not required
- Basic understanding of math and reading concepts; ability to recognize letters and symbols
- Self-motivated, able to motivate others, and team-oriented; able to keep team members informed as needed
- Demonstrated commitment to the Seminary’s Community Values and Behavioral Commitments and alignment with the Seminary’s Statement of Faith
- Willingness to undergo a national background check (and possibly fingerprinting) as required by the school; the school will perform the check
- Must have reliable transportation to the assigned elementary school
- The tutor and student will meet at the assigned elementary school, with the option to meet at Denver Seminary if transportation is available to the student from another location; at no time should the tutor provide transportation
- Pay rate is $18.74 per hour
