About the Role The Transportation Supervisor at Univar Solutions oversees day-to-day private fleet operations at the Providence branch, ensuring safe, compliant, and on-time transportation while meeting customer service and financial targets. This role serves as the site point of contact for transportation execution and coordinates with the District Transportation Manager and regional initiatives to drive improvement projects and carrier performance.

What You'll Do

  • Direct manager supervising drivers and ensuring drivers are dispatched and return safely.
  • Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within the forecast budget.
  • Prepare driver work schedules, including extra workdays, overtime, and shift hours as needed.
  • Monitor driver performance and ensure on-time service levels are met.
  • Review delivery functions and productivity KPI reports to supervise and optimize dispatch routing and truck utilization.
  • Ensure driver routes are optimized and driver workflow is efficient.
  • Assist with the hiring process for new drivers.
  • Respond to customer complaints and, on occasion, handle after-hour calls.
  • Interpret, train, and consistently implement company policies (food safety, DOT, EHS, internal audit, record keeping) and ensure compliance; maintain electronic logs.
  • Coordinate with Safety to train staff, conduct observations, update methods, perform accident investigations, and conduct safety inspections.
  • Ensure driver credentials (HazMat, tanker endorsements, DOT physicals, Federal drug testing) are completed on time.
  • Work with the District Transportation Manager and other personnel on safety spills or releases as needed.
  • Fleet maintenance and asset management: organize required repairs, manage licensing/registration, oversee preventive maintenance, ensure inspections, and coordinate with maintenance vendors for quotes and work.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience supervising drivers in a private fleet environment with strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA/EHS regulations, safety programs, record keeping, and electronic logs.
  • Ability to interpret policies, train staff, and ensure compliance, including handling investigations when needed.
  • Skills in scheduling, budgeting, KPI monitoring, route optimization, and fleet utilization.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration abilities; capable of handling customer complaints and after-hour calls.
  • Ability to coordinate with Safety and maintenance vendors and manage driver credentials (HazMat, tanker endorsements, DOT physicals, drug testing).
  • Willingness to partner with the District Transportation Manager to implement regional strategies.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in private fleet maintenance and asset management; familiarity with fleet maintenance processes and vendor coordination.
