About the Role The Transportation Manager II will supervise midsize driver teams to ensure safe and timely movement of freight while maintaining compliance with DOT regulations. This role requires strong cross-functional coordination with drivers, safety, maintenance, and customers, with flexibility to cover day, night, and weekend shifts to meet demand. What You'll Do
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safety to minimize turnover and maximize ongoing productivity
- Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and work on special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and profitability
- Manage personnel: training and orientation of drivers and employees, including onboarding with internal and third-party systems
- Analyze fleet operations and profitability; determine KPIs; create and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis
- Manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market
- Perform administrative duties: payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, resolving pay issues, invoicing
- Manage yard operations: inspecting equipment, replacing parts, coordinating with maintenance for preventive maintenance and safety-related repairs
- Resolve service, routing, and related issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel, including on-call coverage
- Maintain the company safety culture with daily safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews; enforce DOT compliance and safety requirements
- Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on-time service and meet customer requirements, including managing exceptions What We're Looking For
- Experience in transportation management and driver supervision
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety compliance
- Strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work with internal and external stakeholders
- Flexibility to work day, night, weekend shifts; on-call availability
- Analytical skills to measure KPIs and prepare reporting
- Problem-solving, prioritization, and ability to resolve service and routing issues
- Familiarity with yard operations, equipment maintenance, and safety practices Nice to Have
