Job title: Transportation Manager II

About the Role The Transportation Manager II role coordinates and supervises all traffic functions related to freight movement in and out of a DHL facility. You will manage carrier relationships, track-and-trace processes, and fleet operations to ensure timely, cost-effective transportation and uninterrupted service.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for coordinating and supervising all traffic functions relating to freight movement in and out of a facility
  • Direct and supervise the scheduling of inbound/outbound shipments to ensure most economical utilization of carriers based on service parameters; interface with operations to resolve problems; recommend programs to the director; address customs concerns and controlling costs
  • Manage the defined carrier providing services to the facility; meet with local carrier representatives to discuss base transportation issues; monitor carrier performance; review current practice versus potential improvements by changing carrier mode or mix
  • Develop and implement a proactive track and trace process to ensure all shipments are delivered timely; provide track and trace information to the customer in a timely manner
  • Develop and implement transition plans to support changing business models migrating from DC replenishment to POS delivery to end-user customers; develop service contingencies to support the entire supply chain
  • Direct transportation associates to achieve objectives; hire, train, and develop staff; apply communication and motivational techniques; supervise, counsel, and discipline subordinates; implement performance evaluation system for promotions, wage increases, and terminations
  • Manage and administer the facility truck fleet by selecting drivers, equipment, dispatching, and performing maintenance; ensure service levels and manage costs
  • Prepare billings and process payments of freight bills; establish a financial audit for fleet operations
  • Develop and operate an effective transportation information reporting system; ensure accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution, and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding transportation operations; develop additional reports to support customer’s changing needs
  • Support business development and sales/marketing efforts as needed, including customer presentations and transportation studies
  • Provide transportation support to customers; participate in customer meetings; oversee the receivers visitation program and provide feedback to customers
  • Communicate effectively with associates, customers, and carriers to accomplish objectives
  • Ensure flawless execution of transportation services and compliance with regulatory requirements within scope of service

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years experience in related field
  • Working knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations
  • Experience with the transportation management function

Nice to Have

  • Experience with account management with a logistics organization (preferred)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $75,000 - $95,000 annually (California)
