Translational Systems Toxicology Intern

Join the Translational Systems Toxicology team as a summer intern and drive the development and maintenance of automated update workflows for our genomics-pharmacology database, a critical resource for advancing our pipeline. Transform genomic and pharmacological data sources into structured, analysis-ready datasets, and build reliable, reproducible pipelines that keep the database current. Partner with scientists and engineers across functions to accelerate decisions in preclinical safety assessment.

Responsibility

  • Development and maintenance of automated database update workflows (scheduling, monitoring, alerts) to ensure timely, reproducible refreshes for our existing database.
  • Support and improve existing database integration pipelines to ingest and harmonize preclinical and clinical datasets (genomics, pharmacology, toxicology, chemistry/assay results, etc.), including data cleaning, harmonization, verification, and annotation.
  • Build and maintain reproducible analysis scripts and dashboards to support exploratory analysis and reporting.
  • Document data models, pipelines, SOPs, and work instructions to enable hand-off and reuse.
  • Collaborate closely with safety scientists, bioinformaticians, and data engineers to refine requirements and prioritize tasks.
  • Follow data security, privacy, and compliance practices for handling sensitive research data.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s, or PhD program in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.

  • Strong foundation in programming (Linux, Python or R) and experience writing reproducible code.

  • Working knowledge of biological, genomics and toxicology concepts.

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

  • Familiarity with data cleaning, transformation, and basic exploratory data analysis.

  • Experience with workflow/orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, GitHub Actions, or similar).

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Domino or GCP) and containerization (Docker).

  • Prior exposure to front end design scripts (Javascript, Rshiny or similar)

  • Experience with version control (git) and code review practices.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical work to scientific and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team and manage tasks independently.

  • Candidates must have authorization to work in the US.

  • Experience with Natural language processing and AI tools.

  • This role has a flexible scheduling system once the offer has been accepted.

  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

  • $23.50/hr to $52.50/hr Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
  • The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
