Macquarie University Health is seeking a science graduate with an interest in Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology to join the Cardiology and Interventional Services team, working across ECG, non-invasive cardiac diagnostics and the cardiac catheterisation laboratory. You will perform, analyse and report on a broad range of cardiac investigations, and provide specialist physiological support during diagnostic and interventional procedures, including complex structural heart cases and coronary physiology studies. It is a role with genuine clinical breadth, situated in an environment where diagnostic expertise, teaching and research work side by side to improve care for patients.

About the Role

The Cardiac Physiologist is central to the safe, timely and accurate delivery of cardiac diagnostics and procedural support at Macquarie University Health. Working alongside cardiologists, nursing staff, allied health professionals and students, you will apply sound clinical reasoning and technical expertise within your scope of practice, escalating findings that require immediate clinical attention and contributing to a coordinated, patient-centred approach to care.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Providing specialist cardiac physiological support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterisation, right heart catheterisation and cardiac device procedures, including haemodynamic monitoring, ECG interpretation and operation of imaging and recording systems
  • Preparing accurate patient reports for referring and treating clinicians, and maintaining complete records in the electronic medical record and related systems
  • Communicating findings respectfully and clearly with patients, families and carers, and promptly escalating results requiring urgent clinical review
  • Maintaining cardiac equipment in safe working order, arranging servicing and repairs, and supporting continuous quality improvement, audit and research activities
  • Contributing to education and professional development, including weekly cardiac diagnostic meetings, in-house education sessions, and supervision of less experienced staff and students in routine tasks

About You

  • A degree in science, preferably health science, or an equivalent qualification, with membership of Professionals in Cardiac Sciences Australia (PICSA) and/or ACCP viewed favourably

  • Sound knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the ability to work independently within the scope of practice for Cardiac Physiologists

  • Demonstrated some basic knowledge in performing and interpreting cardiac investigations such as ECG and Holters

  • Experience in working within healthcare is preferred

  • Experience in, or genuine interest in developing, Cath lab skills across diagnostic and interventional procedures;

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical databases, effective workload prioritisation, availability for rotational on-call duties, and a clear commitment to continuing professional development
