About this role

About the Role We are BASF’s Asia-Pacific Service Centre in Kuala Lumpur, supporting BASF group companies to meet all legal and regulatory requirements related to trade compliance. This role helps protect BASF’s license to operate by ensuring adherence to import/export controls, sanctions, screening obligations, and global/regional regulatory changes across APAC and other supported regions. What You'll Do

  • Execute trade compliance related activities for BASF companies to ensure compliance with import/export control, domestic regulations, sanctions, and screening obligations.
  • Ensure timely updates in Daily Operation Reports and regularly review compliance performance against predefined criteria.
  • Evaluate, analyze and verify regulatory data and documentation to support system accuracy, database integrity, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Support team members in resolving service delivery issues and communicate with internal customers/stakeholders.
  • Ensure BASF’s trade compliance processes and standards are applied across Asia Pacific (and other regions), including monitoring regulatory changes, assessing impact, managing stakeholders, and implementing compliance activities using BASF tools and digital solutions.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange, training, and participation in regional projects and initiatives.
  • Prepare reports (KPI, cost charging, non-conformance, improvements) using BASF tools, Visual Dashboard, and digital solutions.
  • Act as focal point for internal/external audits, including quality checks to identify improvements and preventive measures.
  • Review and continuously improve work documentation to maintain knowledge retention and process standardization.
  • Interface with Supply Chain, Customer Services and Technical Experts to implement compliance policies and BASF minimum requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement via Lean Six Sigma and digitalization to enhance operational excellence and efficiency.
  • Execute processes with a high standard of service to meet growing business demands across regions.
  • Guide and support team members in performing routine Trade Compliance Ops activities and commit to continuous self-development (70:20:10 approach). What We're Looking For
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Law, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field; a background in Chemistry or related science is a plus for product-related compliance.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in regulatory/compliance, product safety & stewardship, supply chain/order management operations, or procurement in a multinational environment; practical experience with import/export documentation and procedures is advantageous.
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of regulatory controls, import/export requirements, license/permit management, and trade compliance procedures in Asia Pacific; understanding global trade regulations (export controls, sanctions, screening) is a plus.
  • Tools: Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Excel/PowerPoint); SAP experience supporting compliance or logistics processes is beneficial.
  • Language: Fluent English (written and spoken); proficiency in Chinese or German is an asset.
  • Digital & Methodologies: Experience with digital tools/automation (e.g., Robotic Process Automation, Power BI) or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Skills: Analytical thinking, problem solving, organizational/coordination skills, effective communication, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently and in a team. Nice to Have
  • Lean Six Sigma methodologies and digitalization initiatives
  • Experience with SAP in compliance or logistics contexts
