About the Role Tractor Mechanic role at JB Hunt focused on basic maintenance, service, and repair of tractors and related equipment to keep the fleet operating per JB Hunt specifications. The role may involve outdoor work, exposure to the elements, and working across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends, with potential overtime and full-time attendance required.

What You'll Do

  • Demonstrate foundational technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and basic repairs as it pertains to tractor maintenance including but not limited to the fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections
  • Work independently and seek assistance as needed
  • Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
  • Maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers at all times
  • Accurately perform basic repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and demonstrate proficiency in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
  • Shift Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum Qualifications: 18 years of age with 1 year of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed
  • Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role; these tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations; toolbox purchase program may be available
  • Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to multitask and read documents in English; ability to wear PPE; ability to work both independently and as part of a team; basic active listening; basic computer skills; basic deductive reasoning; basic organizational skills; basic time management skills; self-motivation
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50-mile radius

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting pay range: $27.66 - $36.85 per hour
  • Benefits for full-time positions include medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) retirement plan; life insurance; short-term and long-term disability; paid time off (vacation and sick time); two weeks of paid parental leave; and six paid holidays annually
  • The company notes potential annual bonus and other incentives as applicable and in effect from time to time
