Job title: Traction Power Design Engineer
About the Role Join Alstom as a Traction Power Design Engineer in Västerås. You’ll apply electrical engineering expertise to design and optimize power systems for traction solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with customer and normative requirements.
What You'll Do
- Design and optimize electrical power systems for traction solutions across cross-functional teams (mechanical engineering, control/command engineers, validation engineers)
- Define electrical component interfaces with the mechanical department and specify power requirements for control systems
- Contribute to validation test definitions and solve technical challenges
- Apply design rules and standard tools for power systems; calculate electrical and thermal constraints using MATLAB, SABER and MATHCAD
- Specify and review power electronic components (IGBTs, diodes, passive components) and their interfaces
- Collaborate with suppliers on design reviews and component qualifications
- Contribute to Return of Experience and write knowledge guidelines
- Participate in technical core team meetings and prepare power design reviews in accordance with DFQ systems
What We're Looking For
- A master’s degree in electrical engineering
- Strong background in designing power electronics converters or electro-technical systems
- Proficiency in MATLAB, SABER, MATHCAD
- Knowledge of power electronic components and their interfaces
- Fluency in English; Swedish is desirable
- Creativity and problem-solving skills, particularly in R&D contexts
- Understanding of design methodologies and standard deliverables for power systems
