About the Role The Tool and Die Maker will support maintenance and fabrication of tooling and production equipment at Sonoco, ensuring safe, efficient operation and adherence to quality and food safety standards. This role involves interpreting drawings, setting up machines, performing inspections, and leading on-the-job training as needed. What You'll Do
- Complies with established safety practices, policies, and procedures for safe performance of work
- Supports and follows food safety system guidelines
- Maintains a safe work environment; corrects unsafe acts/conditions; participates in safety meetings; conducts inspections; investigates accidents as required
- Ensures tooling and equipment are maintained and functioning properly; signs out parts and returns unused items
- Documents maintenance and repair work orders; performs preventive maintenance on schedule
- Reviews blueprints and work orders; creates drawings or sketches of parts to be made or repaired; interprets drawings and determines dimensions
- Performs layout work; provides on-the-job training and development for assigned personnel
- Receives tools and paperwork; maintains logbooks
- Selects, grinds, and adjusts tools, speeds, and feed rates for efficient machining
- Sets up and operates machine tools (lathes, grinders, mills, hones)
- Performs dismantling, fitting, and assembly for maintenance of production equipment
- Repairs and maintains machines and equipment; assists in inspection of tooling and operation of inspection equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned What We're Looking For
- 2-5 years of experience in tooling fabrication and die assembly for high-speed or conversion presses (preferred)
- Proficient in precision measuring tools including scales, calipers, micrometers, telescope gauges, and dial indicators
- Ability to read blueprints and work orders; strong attention to detail; safety-conscious
- Experience with setting up and operating machine tools and performing preventive maintenance Compensation & Benefits
- Wage: $39.41 per hour
- Shift: 12-hour night shift; Weekend (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) 40 hours
