About the Role Tiger X Group Fitness Instructors lead high-energy, inclusive group fitness classes at Pacific Recreation, delivering safe, engaging workouts that accommodate all fitness levels and promote health and well-being. Instructors follow Baun Fitness Center protocols to ensure proper warm-up, safe techniques, and progression.
What You'll Do
- Lead regularly scheduled and assigned group fitness classes for Pacific Recreation.
- Design and conduct classes following Baun Fitness Center protocols: warm-up, structured routines, and cool-down/stretch sessions.
- Select appropriate music matching class intensity and format.
- Lead safe and effective exercises within certified expertise; monitor participant safety and engagement.
- Foster a welcoming, supportive, and motivating environment.
- Promote and enforce Pacific Recreation policies consistently.
- Support fitness-related events and departmental initiatives.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing participant questions and feedback.
- Assist with fitness equipment maintenance and inventory; make recommendations for future equipment needs.
- Secure substitutes and class coverage when unable to attend.
- Clock in/out; track and report participant attendance after each class.
- Communicate major concerns, incidents, or equipment issues to professional staff.
- Arrive on time and prepared for classes, appointments, or meetings.
- Attend all staff meetings, in-services, and any required individual check-ins.
- Create a physically safe environment for participants of all abilities.
- Instructors must be capable of performing a variety of movements including aerobic exercises, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, stretching, and lifting light weights.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act; CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current fitness certification from a Pacific Recreation-approved organization (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, AFAA, NFPT, NPTI, Zumba, etc.).
- Current CPR/AED certification or obtain within 30 days of hire (in-house certification may be provided).
Nice to Have
- Strong public speaking and communication skills.
- Holds two national certifications in different group fitness formats, or holds one national certification and a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- At least one year of teaching or training experience in group fitness or related settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in a campus or community setting.
- Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into instruction and programming.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hiring Range $22-$35 DOE per hour.
