About this role

About the Role The Tiger Trainer (Personal Trainer) is responsible for providing safe, effective, and accessible programming for individual and small group clients of all ages and degrees of health. The role also emphasizes outstanding customer service and adherence to campus recreation policies.

What You'll Do

  • Schedule and conduct private personal training sessions for clients, following Pacific Recreation protocols.
  • Execute initial consultations and fitness assessment testing per Pacific Recreation protocols.
  • Model, promote, and consistently enforce campus recreation policies.
  • Design exercise programs for a variety of participants by combining individual health goals with assessment results.
  • Execute fitness-related special events.
  • Respond to clients' questions with superior customer service and provide motivation to participate in an exercise program.
  • Maintain assessment and personal training equipment inventory; make recommendations for future purchases.
  • Assist, when needed, with tours/sales for prospective clients and stay informed with current pricing options.
  • Maintain accurate records of clients' fitness assessments, exercise prescriptions, progress notes, and important concerns; maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Clock in and out during all hours worked; manage organization, safety, and cleanliness of the training floor and related spaces.
  • Monitor participant safety regarding heart rate, exercise technique, posture and spine alignment, and joint stress during resistance training.
  • Report any major issues to professional staff; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum three (3) months of experience as a personal trainer.
  • Current fitness certification from a Pacific Rec approved education association (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA, AFFA, NFPT, NPTI, WITS).
  • Current CPR/AED certification or obtain within 30 days of hire (in-house certification provided if necessary).

Nice to Have

  • Ability to create effective and safe exercise prescriptions for all fitness levels, novice to elite.
  • Intermediate knowledge of physiology, exercise technique, and body mechanics.
  • Ability to multi-task and train up to three clients in one session.
  • Positive, motivating interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting; ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in work.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly pay range: $16.50 - $32.00 per hour.
