Tier 2 Systems Administrator

Location: suffolk, Virginia (Onsite)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to support the sustained operation and maintenance of a US Navy enterprise transport network. This position requires ensuring 24/7/365 availability and reliability for a mission-critical network. The role involves end-to-end network, system, and element visibility, facilitating rapid operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning. This is a shift-based role covering continuous operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide Tier 2 level engineering operations support to identify, triage, and resolve outages, escalating to Tier 3 support when necessary.

• Utilize advanced monitoring tools to oversee network infrastructure and ensure optimal performance and availability of managed services.

• Perform daily maintenance, fixes, configuration corrections, software and hardware updates, and deployments.

• Operate and maintain privileged access solutions, asset management processes, and configuration management.

• Maintain and verify failover processes and disaster recovery procedures.

• Enact change management for the solution and maintain existing incident management processes.

• Keep firmware, software updates, and patches current for all equipment.

• Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related discipline. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience in enterprise architecture and supporting a large network infrastructure.

Technical Skills:

• Windows Server deployment and administration

• Active Directory and Group Policy

• RHEL / Red Hat Linux

• VMware vSphere for VM deployment

• DNS

• Working knowledge of Routers, Switches, and Firewalls

• Understanding of TCP/IP, including routing and subnetting

• Preferred Qualifications

• Scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or BASH.

• Experience with Ansible (Tower), Puppet, Chef, Terraform, Containerization, or Jenkins.

• Familiarity with Nautobot, RHEL Satellite, or InfoBlox DDI.

• Certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, RedHat Linux, or Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate.

• Work Environment

• Must be able to work rotating shifts to cover a 24/7 operational environment, which includes evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

• Must be able to cover an on-call schedule on a rotating basis.
