About this role
Thesis worker Future Interior Projection Lighting for TRATON Commercial Vehicles
Introduction
Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and Traton and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Traton career with their degree project.
Background
The commercial vehicle industry is undergoing a transformation in which interior lighting is evolving from a purely functional feature into a key contributor to user experience, brand perception, driver wellbeing, and product differentiation.
Advances in digital light engine technologies, including Digital Light Processing (DLP), MEMS-based laser scanning, Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS), and emerging micro-LED solutions, enable manufacturers to introduce dynamic projection-based lighting concepts within the vehicle cabin. Such systems can project graphics, symbols, ambient effects, information and brand signatures onto interior surfaces such as dashboards, door panels, roof liners, storage compartments and sleeper cabins.
For the TRATON brands (Scania, MAN, International, and Volkswagen Truck & Bus), future projection lighting solutions have the potential to create stronger emotional connections between drivers and their vehicles while enhancing usability, comfort and brand differentiation.
Objective
The objective of this thesis is to investigate and recommend future projection-based lighting concepts for TRATON heavy-duty commercial vehicles by benchmarking available projection technologies, evaluating their technical and commercial feasibility and developing interior lighting concepts that strengthen brand identity and enhance the driver experience.
The thesis shall explore how different projection-based lighting solutions can be applied within the vehicle cabin for:
Static Ambient Lighting Applications
Examples include: Illuminated branding elements, Static logo projections, Decorative ambient lighting patterns, Sleeper cabin atmosphere lighting, Storage compartment illumination, Entry and exit lighting scenarios.
Dynamic Interior Lighting Applications
Examples include: Animated welcome sequences, Dynamic dashboard illumination, Information and status projections, Driver coaching visualizations, Navigation guidance cues, Mood and wellbeing scenarios, Adaptive lighting based on driving conditions.
Expected Outcome
The outcome of the degree project is expected to be one or more concept proposals demonstrating how future projection lighting technologies could be integrated into TRATON commercial vehicles.
