What you will do

The purpose of this thesis is to develop and evaluate compressor control strategies for separate battery cooling and cabin cooling systems.

The work may include:

  • Studying the cooling requirements of battery systems and cabin in electric construction equipment.
  • Developing compressor control strategies for separate battery cooling and cabin cooling systems.
  • Evaluating different compressor control approaches for varying thermal loads and ambient conditions.
  • Implementing and evaluating controller concepts in MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Developing control algorithms using model-based design methods.
  • Assessing system efficiency, cooling performance, robustness, and controllability.

The exact scope may be adjusted based on project findings and student interests.

Who are you?

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Ongoing master's studies in Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of control theory and system dynamics.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Interest in thermal management systems, refrigeration systems, or electrified vehicles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate technical results effectively.
  • Thesis level: Master, 30 ECTS credits
  • Language: English
  • Starting date: January 2027
  • Number of students: 1-2
  • Location: Volvo Construction Equipment, 635 10 Eskilstuna, Sweden
