About the Role

Oberlin College's Chemistry and Biochemistry Department invites applications for up to two full-time tenure-track faculty positions in the College of Arts and Sciences. Expertise in organic chemistry, broadly defined, is required; candidates specializing in polymer, organometallic, or bioorganic chemistry are especially desirable. Initial appointment of these positions will begin in fall of 2027.

What You'll Do

  • Teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of organic chemistry, including CHEM 205 (Organic Chemistry), CHEM 254 (Bioorganic Chemistry), CHEM 325 (Organic Mechanism and Synthesis); incumbents will teach CHEM 205 and CHEM 325, and, depending on background, CHEM 254; opportunities to teach CHEM 327 (Synthesis Laboratory) and general chemistry/non-majors courses as appropriate.
  • Engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work; mentor undergraduate research, advise students, and participate in committees.
  • Contribute to the college's DEI goals through teaching and service; take advantage of mentoring and professional development opportunities, including a paid pre-tenure leave, startup support, and internal grants for conference travel and research.

What We're Looking For

  • PhD in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2027-28; postdoctoral experience is desirable.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Expertise in organic chemistry (broadly defined); candidates specializing in polymer, organometallic, or bioorganic chemistry are especially desirable.
  • Willingness to contribute to cross-disciplinary collaboration, research, and service.

Nice to Have

  • Postdoctoral experience and additional cross-disciplinary collaboration experience are desirable.
