Job title: Tenure-track Faculty in Education (Assistant/Associate level)

About the Role Bowdoin College’s Department of Education invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty appointment in Education beginning July 1, 2027. Applicants at the Assistant and Associate level are encouraged to apply, with a subfield open but a preference for candidates with a background in mathematics or data science and research in Learning Sciences focusing on AI in teaching and learning. The position emphasizes undergraduate teaching and sustained research; a Ph.D. in Education or a related field is expected by the date of the appointment.

What You'll Do

  • Teach undergraduate Education courses and contribute to the BTS pathway, collaborating with current Education faculty to revise courses to include content related to AI.
  • Develop and maintain an active, high-quality research program in Learning Sciences with a distinct focus on the development and role of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, including mentoring and advising undergraduates where appropriate.
  • Engage with Bowdoin initiatives related to AI and humanity and contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and scholarly activities that align with the college’s commitment to inclusive excellence and responsible AI use.

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. in Education or a related field expected by the appointment date.
  • Applicants at the Assistant or Associate professor levels.
  • Background in mathematics or data science with research in Learning Sciences and AI in teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching and to a long-term research program.

Nice to Have

  • Preference for candidates with a background in mathematics or data science and a research program in Learning Sciences with a focus on AI in teaching and learning.
