Job title: Temporary Registered Nurse (RN) - Per Diem
About the Role The RN will work collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other members of the SU Health Services team to provide comprehensive clinical care for students’ illnesses, injuries, immunizations, and health education needs. This per diem position requires regular in-person presence on campus at Syracuse University’s Health Services locations to support students and contribute to the university’s thriving academic environment.
What You'll Do
- Provide telephone and walk-in triage, assess patient inquiries, minor illnesses/injuries, and determine appropriate care or referral to appointment or local emergency services. Document interactions in the EMR.
- Administer immunizations and injections, teach students self-administration, perform wound care, suture/staple removal, ear irrigation, nebulizer treatment, and vital sign checks; review orders prior to administration and document in the EHR.
- STI Clinic: screen students using STI tools, order required lab testing, explain results, provide sexual health education, and refer to providers or Behavioral Health Initiatives as needed.
- Clinic duties: support primary care providers and other nurses in rooming patients, obtaining histories, collecting vital signs, specimen collection/labeling, coordinating care, administering medications and injections with proper orders, and assisting with women's health visits or minor procedures.
- Point-of-care lab duties: perform CLIA-waived tests on-site, perform control testing, occasional phlebotomy, enter results in EMR, stock supplies, handle specimens, and liaise with reference labs.
- Continuing education: attend relevant on- and off-campus seminars and teaching days.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Education & Licensure: RN licensed to practice in New York; minimum three years of RN experience, preferably in an ambulatory setting.
- Skills & Knowledge: Primary care or college health office experience and phlebotomy experience preferred; CPR certification required.
Nice to Have
- Phlebotomy experience (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $35.00–$36.00 per hour; on-campus, per diem role. The Barnes Center at The Arch is open Monday–Friday 8:30am–5:00pm and Saturdays 10:00am–4:00pm on a rotational basis; hours may vary based on operational needs.
