About the Role The SEIU Local 1021 seeks a Temporary Membership Department Supervisor in Oakland. This manager‑level role, reporting to the Director for Membership, is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the Local 1021 Membership Department and first‑line supervision of staff, ensuring accurate dues processing, data management, and member services. What You'll Do
- Manage the accounting and processing of membership dues revenue and voluntary political contributions.
- Supervise Membership Department staff, including regular supervisory meetings, training and mentoring, evaluating performance, establishing deadlines, and monitoring policy compliance.
- Troubleshoot, improve, and design workflows to increase efficiency.
- Oversee maintenance of accurate and current membership data; collaborate with IT to improve use of UnionWare membership database software.
- Fulfill (or assign) requests for reports or data files from UnionWare using Microsoft Excel or predefined reports.
- Respond to inquiries from members, elected leaders, and staff regarding union dues or other departmental areas of responsibility.
- Communicate with employers to implement or change payroll deductions and obtain member data.
- Manage distribution of union membership materials.
- Participate in month-end closing and in monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Participate in the Union’s compliance with state, federal, and accounting requirements.
- Back up supervision of the Local 1021 Member Resource Center. What We're Looking For
- Supervisory/managerial experience required.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (and willingness to learn more) required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Work experience in a labor union or non-profit sector, and some work with multi-user databases preferred.
- Familiarity with UnionWare or membership database systems is a plus. Nice to Have
- Experience with UnionWare membership database software (or similar systems).
- Prior work experience in nonprofit or union settings. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range $123,103.63 – $141,569.17 per year (USD).

- This is a salaried position; may require nonstandard work hours and/or weekend/holiday work. Occasional travel to meetings, primarily in Northern California, is required.
