Job title: Temporary Challenge Course Community Staff
About the Role Temporary Challenge Course Community Staff provide safe, engaging programming for Syracuse University Outdoor Education Challenge Course activities under the direction of Lead Facilitators. This on-campus, casual, as-needed role supports students and fosters group development and educational outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Conduct daily inspection of challenge course elements and set up / take down elements.
- Facilitate games, initiatives and activities, and support group development as planned by the Lead Facilitator.
- Complete daily paperwork documenting operations and incidents; assist with scheduling and coordination.
- Communicate effectively with participants and staff; ensure safety and adherence to procedures; maintain reliability and punctuality.
- Work as part of a team within the SU Outdoor Education Program and respond to scheduling requests in a timely manner.
What We're Looking For
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Training (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience facilitating or participating in group processing/planning discussions; familiarity with group/team development.
- Trained on SU Challenge Course Standard and local operating procedures.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to relate to diverse populations.
- Ability to use sound judgment to prioritize safety; ability to relate to participants and staff.
- Ability to perform duties in extended periods and adverse conditions; comfortable with outdoor settings and physical tasks including knots/belay and PPE such as harnesses and helmets.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range: $16.80 - $20.00 per hour.
- On-campus, in-person work arrangement with limited remote options per University policy.
