How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)
Component Engineering is seeking a driven, self-starting Senior Engineer to join the structures team. This team provides engineering support to four structural shops within Component Maintenance, helping the operation respond quickly to constraints, improve component-level reliability, and deliver cost-saving sheet metal and composite repairs that strengthen Delta’s bottom line. In this role, the successful candidate will partner closely with Component Maintenance, Materials, Supply Chain, MRO, and other engineering teams to provide timely technical support, advance repair initiatives, and develop practical solutions that enhance cost, quality, and turnaround time for our component-level parts.
- Develop and implement complex repairs for aircraft components with an emphasis on composite and sheet metal structure.
- Issue engineering paperwork in the form of ER/As, PRIs, Drawings, etc. to support component-level work.
- Maintain compliance with applicable FAA, DOT, OSHA and EPA regulations, foreign regulatory requirements and Delta's Technical Operations Policy and Procedures (TOPP) and all other engineering processes.
- Coordinate and contribute to process improvements to increase enterprise effectiveness.
- Practice safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.
- Identify and implement cost-saving product improvements, including but not limited to Owner-Operator Produced Parts (OOPPs), typical repairs, alternate testing procedures, etc.
- Drive creative repair substantiation strategies by leveraging industry-accepted analysis methods to evaluate alternative solutions while ensuring continued airworthiness and regulatory compliance.
- Regularly visit assigned component shops and attend daily shop GEMBA meetings.
- Foster strong collaboration between Engineering and Maintenance.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
- Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States.
- Possesses a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency.
- Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles.
- Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data.
- A four-year accredited undergraduate engineering degree (Aeronautical/Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, etc.) required. On a case-by-case basis, consideration for experience can replace an engineering degree.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of maintenance and engineering.
- Must be willing to travel as required.
- Internal candidates must be performing satisfactorily in current position.
- Candidates will be considered for a grade 6/Engineer position if they do not meet grade 7/Sr Engineer requirements.
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)
- Familiarity with airline operations and support systems.
- Familiarity with CFR's and DOT regulations pertaining to aircraft cabin certification.
- Familiarity with use of Aircraft Technical Manuals (AMM, CMM, IPCs, WDMs, etc.)
- Familiarity with application of Safety Risk Management in technical applications is desired.
- Familiarity with Composite and Sheetmetal structural analysis.
- Familiarity with accepted industry standard analysis methodologies.
