About this role

Technology Engineer

Your role

We are looking for a motivated, pro-active technology with a strong preference for mechanical engineering and the drive to improve compressor thermodynamics and optimize fluid dynamic behaviour. Join us in developing the highly technological oil-injected screw (OIS) compressor, the heart of our best-in-class compressor units converting mechanical energy to compressed air. The OIS is a widely used product in a large variety of applications, making it “the workhorse of the industry”.

You (and the project team) will define the development of products from the first prototype to serial production. You will be responsible for technology development and advancing specific knowledge domains. Product development, modelling (digital twin), simulations, testing, data processing and manufacturing are mainly done on site in Wilrijk. This means you will have hands-on experience with the products and will also work outside of a traditional desk environment. The oil-injected screw product development team consists of project leaders, designers, technology engineers dedicated to the development on state-of-the-art compressor elements. Atlas Copco has a strong focus on sustainability where you will have many learning possibilities and get the chance to work on making more efficient and sustainable products in a high impact industry sector.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Extensive research, simulations, calculations and modelling on components or subsystems of compressors.
  • Identify key decisions and devise/execute a test plan to answer knowledge gaps.
  • Ensure the implementation of new concepts as part of new product development projects.
  • Acquire the relevant knowledge from internal and external stakeholders
  • Follow up the technology evolution for specific compressor types and subsystems.

To succeed, you will need

  • You have a Master of Engineering Science or Master of Science or equivalent by experience. Having acquired a PhD in this domain is an advantage.
  • You have a strong technical background, preferably in engineering, supported by excellent analytical skills to solve complex technical problems.
  • Matlab (or similar like Python) knowledge is preferred.
  • Able to interpret FEA/CFD results. Experience in numerical simulations is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. You can work on multi-disciplinary problems, dive deep into the details of a problem, while keeping an overview of the bigger picture.
  • Experience in oil-injected screw compressors or compressors in general is a plus but not required.
  • Experience as project member or leader in product development projects is a plus.
  • You can work in an international environment.
  • Good communication skills and English proficiency are required, communication skills in Dutch are a plus.

In return, we offer you

At Atlas Copco Group you will join an international and diverse environment with specialists from different disciplines. Our culture is rooted in Swedish values, which includes a family feeling, respect and diversity. We invest in our employees' development and well-being, and we provide a flexible work-life balance. With our inclusive and caring environment, you get the support and inspiration you need to grow. Here, your ideas are embraced, and you never stop learning.

You will have a comprehensive onboarding program, including guidance by a personal godmother/godfather. You will also have access to global job opportunities, as part of the Atlas Copco Group. We offer an interesting compensation and benefits package, including health insurance, paid leave and retirement benefits.
