Technican, Early Stage Design

The Mechanical Technician supports Advanced Machine Systems through a combination of mechanical design, drafting, and 3D metrology lab support within an early-stage development environment. This role contributes to prototype, development-line, and R&D-related work by supporting 3D scanning activities, analyzing metrology data, creating and revising mechanical drawings, and assisting engineers with project-based design work. The position is intended for a technically curious, self-directed individual who can balance independent execution with collaboration across a matrixed project environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the 3D scan metrology lab by helping collect scan data, analyze results, and respond to internal customer needs

  • Create and revise mechanical designs, layouts, and detail drawings using tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar 3D drafting software

  • Contribute to project work through mechanical design, drafting, and documentation support under the direction of engineers

  • Prepare technical documentation including drawing packages, spare parts lists, SOPs, and related materials

  • Support equipment-related project activity such as debug, startup, installation coordination, and communication with vendors or internal stakeholders

  • Experiences/Education – Required

  • Strong background in 3D design and drafting

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar CAD/design software

  • Experience supporting mechanical design, detailing, equipment layout, or related technical project work

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with limited day-to-day direction

  • Strong technical curiosity and willingness to learn new lab tools, metrology technologies, and software

  • Ability to contribute effectively in a team-based, matrixed project environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experiences/Education – Desired

  • Associate’s degree preferred in Mechanical Technology, CAD, or a related technical field; candidates without a degree may be considered if they bring significant relevant experience

  • Experience with 3D scanning, metrology tools, reverse engineering, or metrology data analysis

  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on equipment or machine-related experience

  • Experience in prototype, development-line, manufacturing, or other early-stage technical environments

  • Experience preparing technical documentation and supporting engineers on project-based work

  • Ability to present technical work clearly to internal stakeholders

  • The range for this position is $59,248.00 - $81,466.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
