Job Description
Penguin Random House is seeking a Technical Product Analyst to join the Customer Operations team supporting Distrotheque (DTQ), our proprietary metadata and asset distribution platform. DTQ plays a critical role in distributing book metadata and digital assets to PRH customers and partners and continues to evolve alongside the changing needs of our business and the marketplace.
Reporting to the Director, Customer Operations & Product Management, the Technical Product Analyst will work closely with the team's Business Systems Analyst and internal technology partners to support the ongoing development, testing, and reliability of DTQ. This role will provide technical and analytical support throughout the product-development lifecycle, with particular focus on detailed requirements, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and release readiness.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys understanding how complex systems work, digging into technical and data-driven problems, and ensuring that software solutions function reliably and meet business requirements. The successful candidate will combine strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to collaborate effectively across business and technical teams.
Specific responsibilities include:
-
Partner with the Business Systems Analyst and business stakeholders to translate business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
-
Analyze DTQ workflows, business rules, data flows, integrations, and system dependencies to assess requirements and the impact of proposed changes.
-
Develop and execute comprehensive functional, regression, integration, and release testing for enhancements, fixes, and new functionality.
-
Document, investigate, and track defects through resolution, partnering with technology teams to reproduce issues and validate fixes.
-
Build and maintain regression test coverage for critical DTQ functionality and identify opportunities to improve or automate testing practices.
-
Support Agile development activities, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, requirements clarification, and release preparation.
-
Troubleshoot production and operational issues, using data and system analysis to identify root causes and recommend sustainable solutions.
-
Monitor system processes and exception reporting, escalating issues and identifying recurring patterns or areas of risk.
-
Support production releases through testing, validation, documentation, and post-release monitoring.
-
Maintain clear functional, technical, testing, and process documentation to strengthen shared knowledge of DTQ.
-
Analyze data and system performance to identify opportunities for improved reliability, efficiency, automation, and product functionality.
-
Collaborate closely with the Business Systems Analyst, Customer Operations SMEs, and technology partners to ensure solutions meet documented requirements and broader business needs.
Qualifications
-
3+ years of experience in technical product analysis, business systems analysis, software quality assurance, or a related field.
-
Experience translating business needs into detailed functional or technical requirements.
-
Experience developing and executing software test plans, test cases, and regression testing.
-
Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to investigate complex system or data issues.
-
Experience working with data and using it to troubleshoot issues and validate system behavior.
-
Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.
-
Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
-
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with both business and technical partners.
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
-
Experience with metadata, digital asset management, distribution systems, or other complex data-driven platforms preferred.
