About the Role

Georgia-Pacific Warrenton is seeking a Technical Manager for our new lumber mill in Warrenton, GA. The Technical Manager will utilize leadership, influence, operations experience, and communication abilities to analyze key performance data on process, product, and equipment to identify strategic improvements that create value. This position provides process engineering oversight for the entire manufacturing process, reliability to improve quality, increase production and yield, and eliminate waste. The primary responsibility is quality oversight for the entire facility focused on creating and implementing sustainable processes to extract the most value from our raw material.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise, coordinate, and support value creation and production efforts by analyzing process performance and developing metrics to promote safety, production, quality, yield, and cost improvements.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Planning, Sales and Marketing, and Wood Supply to set mill optimization parameters that maximize value.
  • Be a safety role model and foster continuous improvement in safety culture.
  • Promote forward-looking practices and procedures that model "perfect" operations of all machine centers.
  • Develop, analyze, and report performance metrics evaluating machine center/department/mill performance; identify improvements and track the impact.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and optimize performance; evaluate machine performance daily through checks and calibrations.
  • Implement recovery controls to minimize fiber loss from out-of-control processes.
  • Work with outside vendors and technicians to maintain mill optimization systems; communicate with controls technicians on opportunities to improve mill flow and reduce variation.
  • Provide technical assistance to computer optimization systems and promote quality standards per governing agencies and Georgia-Pacific lumber standards.
  • Manage the Quality Control team and drive their development; prevent quality issues through QC processes and operations training.
  • Lead new product development and testing; identify cost-saving opportunities in board manufacturing.
  • Track, prioritize, and assign process improvement projects that advance EH&S, quality, throughput, and product costs; maintain strong relationships with production and maintenance teams.
  • Provide leadership to troubleshoot operating and maintenance issues; stay current with innovative technologies and continuous process improvement.
  • Be an active member of the mill CI process.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working in industrial manufacturing in a technical/quality role
  • Supervisor experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with industrial statistics and statistical analysis
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, gap identification and analysis, and project or program planning/execution
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or economics
  • Lumber manufacturing experience in a leadership technical/process optimization role
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification
