Technical Lead Substation Design Engineer

About the Role The opportunity is to serve as a Technical Lead Substation Design Engineer for FACTS projects spanning distribution, subtransmission and transmission voltage classes. You will define project requirements, review deliverables, and collaborate with owner and OEM resources to ensure safe, compliant and high-quality designs. What You'll Do

• Function as technical Lead substation design engineer for FACTS projects across distribution, subtransmission, and transmission voltage classes.
• Utilize safety and regulatory standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, ISO/RTO) to define project requirements and review deliverables (physical, P&C, power system design).
• Collaborate with owner and OEM resources (subject matter experts, internal engineering, project management).
• Conduct research into non-standard design aspects; locate white papers, brochures, publications, or standards to bring yourself up to speed.
• Convey technical information to project team and stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Lead internal discussions with owner engineering teams to close out technical or project management topics.
• Lead production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activity, and serve as the responsible charge for a project.
• Mentor and share knowledge; participate in career planning, learning and development; support resource management. What We're Looking For
• Experience as technical Lead substation design engineer for FACTS projects; broad experience across distribution, subtransmission and transmission.
• Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC, NERC, ISO/RTO).
• Ability to conduct research to resolve non-standard design challenges; self-driven and proactive.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience coordinating multi-discipline teams; project management, budgeting, scheduling, quality control.
• Recognized as technical specialist; ability to provide consultation and guidance to project teams.
• Demonstrated mentoring and knowledge management; ability to train and develop junior staff. Nice to Have
• Experience with HV substations in fast-growth technology sectors: gigafactories, data centers, BESS integration; HVDC/FACTS/STATCOM; renewables integration.
