Job title: Technical Lead Software Engineer (Embedded Linux)

About the Role Garmin is seeking a Technical Lead Software Engineer to help shape embedded platforms powering Marine products, combining deep embedded Linux expertise with systems architecture and technical leadership.

What You'll Do

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural direction across marine product platforms and embedded systems
  • Serve as Lead Software Engineer on major initiatives, especially those involving new technologies or expanding marine capabilities
  • Drive designs balancing performance, reliability, and security in embedded environments
  • Commonize software technologies across a wide range of embedded products
  • Provide key technical contributions for major new products/applications including software development in C, C++
  • Mentor and guide less experienced software engineers
  • Collaborate with software vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables
  • Evaluate new technologies and features; propose improvements and new procedures
  • Apply extensive technical expertise to resolve complex problems; contribute to software reviews across multiple product/application types

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field
  • 9+ years of relevant experience or equivalent; lead software engineering and architecture experience
  • Expertise in embedded Linux, Yocto, C/C++, Python, and system integration
  • Demonstrated experience as lead software engineer for projects using new technologies and architecting solutions; strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication
  • Positive, detail-oriented, organized, team-oriented, driven problem solver; able to prioritize and lead in a fast-paced environment

Desired Qualifications

  • Outstanding academics (GPA ≥ 3.5)
  • Experience configuring and building custom Linux distributions with Yocto
  • Knowledge of Linux services and inter-process communications
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripts
