About this role

Dana Incorporated - Team Lead, System test design

Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains.

Serving three primary markets – passenger vehicle, commercial truck, and the off-highway equipment – Dana provides the world’s original equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.

As the Team Lead, System test design, you will manage the test engineering team by owning sprint planning, task distribution, and workflow cadence across all testing activities. Act as the interface between organizational priorities and the team, ensuring sustainable delivery pace, clear stakeholder communication, and effective collaboration with the operations team. You will be responsible of the execution of tests for embedded software, emotors, and highvoltage inverters according to defined test plan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Sprint Management and Resource Planning:

  • Decompose work into sprint-sized packages and maintain a predictable weekly cadence.
  • Prioritize activities based on organizational needs without passing urgency to the team.
  • Assess capacity, identify bottlenecks, and reallocate resources as needed.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Ensure the team communicates test status, progress, and blockers throughout execution.
  • Engage with engineering on issues, providing clear problem descriptions and insights.
  • Provide regular updates on test coverage, project status, and release schedules.

Operator Collaboration:

  • Align with the operations lead on role boundaries and handoff protocols.
  • Drive the transition of bench operation responsibility to the operators team.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics engineering (or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of experience in software or system test engineering, including experience with embedded software validation or power electronics.
  • Prior experience leading or coordinating technical teams in an agile environment.
  • Familiarity with software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and system-level testing for electric motor and inverter control systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAN protocols, CI/CD pipelines, and automated test frameworks.

Skills

Management and Leadership:

  • Sprint planning, realistic estimation, and delivery cadence management.
  • Team capacity planning, delegation, and transparent communication of constraints.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with operations, software engineering, and leadership.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities without losing team focus or morale.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Software and firmware testing for embedded systems — electric motors, inverters, and control software.
  • Test automation using frameworks such as pytest, Robot Framework, or equivalent; familiarity with regression suites and CI-driven test execution.
  • Version control and CI/CD: Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar pipelines.
  • Test environments: HIL/SIL rigs, dynos, thermal chambers, EMC, electrical, and collision.
  • Sufficient knowledge of CAN tools (Vector CANalyzer/CANoe) to assess task complexity.
  • Familiarity with AVL PUMA 2, UTAC REPS, Python scripting, and LabVIEW workflows.
