Job Description

Canonical is a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets. Its flagship platform, Ubuntu, is widely used across public cloud, data science, artificial intelligence, engineering innovation, IoT, and other major technology initiatives. The company operates as a globally distributed organization with more than 1,200 employees across over 75 countries and very few office-based roles.

Canonical is seeking a Tax Senior Associate to report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and support multiple Canonical corporate entities across several countries. The company has a preference for candidates located within EMEA time zones.

This is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional to help build and develop Canonical's tax function from the ground up within a profitable and rapidly growing technology company. The role is suited to an analytical, forward-thinking tax professional who is interested in how technology and automation are transforming the tax profession and who can translate that understanding into practical tax strategies, efficient processes, and hands-on execution.

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Tax Senior Associate will design, manage, and own tax processes supporting Canonical's global expansion. The role involves navigating an evolving international tax environment in which tax regulations are constantly changing. The successful candidate will work closely with the CFO to establish a scalable and efficient tax framework suitable for a dynamic global software business.

The role will cover a broad range of international tax responsibilities, including digital services taxes, corporate tax, VAT, transfer pricing, tax audits, tax provisioning, IFRS reporting, tax legislation monitoring, and the use of technology and automation to improve tax processes and data management.

Canonical states that its selection process places significant emphasis on intellectual ability and strategic thinking rather than simply years of experience. The successful candidate should have a strong academic background, professional qualifications in accounting and tax, and demonstrable experience dealing with global tax matters in a multinational environment.
