We are looking for an accomplished Tax Manager to lead a broad range of tax activities for our public accounting practice in Santa Ynez, California. This position is suited for a detail-oriented individual who can balance technical accuracy with practical planning, while advising clients and internal stakeholders on complex tax matters. The role offers the opportunity to guide tax operations, support staff development, and help strengthen the firm’s overall tax function in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation and final review of federal, state, and local tax filings for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and other applicable entities to ensure timely and accurate submission.
• Design and recommend tax planning approaches that reduce exposure, improve efficiency, and align with client or organizational financial objectives.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, evaluate their implications, and translate technical changes into clear guidance for clients and team members.
• Conduct in-depth analysis of complex tax questions and develop well-supported documentation, including technical summaries and research-based conclusions.
• Lead tax examinations and inquiries by coordinating with auditors and government agencies, gathering required materials, and managing responses throughout the process.
• Supervise entry-level tax team members and operations staff by assigning work, reviewing output, and coaching team members to build technical capability and confidence.
• Maintain organized tax records and prepare reporting materials that provide leadership with visibility into compliance status, risks, and planning opportunities.
• Collaborate with colleagues across accounting and client service functions to resolve tax issues efficiently and deliver a high standard of service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• At least 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting or tax management, including work with individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and exempt entity returns.

• Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax rules, compliance obligations, and filing practices.

• Demonstrated ability to manage corporate, federal, individual, partnership, sales, and trust tax return processes with a high level of accuracy.

• Proficiency with Lacerte, QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online, Slack, Canopy Tax, Zoom, Webex, Adobe, and Microsoft Office applications.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tax concepts to a variety of audiences.

• CPA certification is preferred.
