Job title: Systems PhD - Software Engineer
About the Role Databricks is seeking a Systems PhD for the Software Engineer role on the Database Engine team to push the boundaries of modern data systems across multi-cloud environments. You will design and implement in areas that leapfrog state-of-the-art systems: query compilation & optimization, distributed query execution and scheduling, vectorized engine execution, data security, resource management, transaction coordination, efficient storage structures (encoding, indexes), and automatic physical data optimization.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement database engine components across multiple areas including query compilation & optimization, distributed execution and scheduling, vectorized execution, and data security.
- Tackle resource management, transaction coordination, and efficient storage structures (encoding, indexes), and drive automatic physical data optimization.
- Participate in building multi-cloud systems with auto-sharders, caches, and load balancers to scale data workloads and deliver customer value.
What We're Looking For
- PhD in databases or systems.

Compensation & Benefits
- Local Pay Range: USD 150,000—USD 190,000 per year.
- The total compensation package may include eligibility for an annual performance bonus, equity, and the listed benefits.
