MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Systems Engineer to join our team in Lexington Park, MD. This position is hybrid; 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.
You will support the Navy’s Aerial Targets Program Office (PMX-208) at NAS Patuxent River. PMX-208’s mission is to advance the Navy’s combat readiness by delivering next-generation threat-representative targets. You will help support the BQM-177A Subsonic Aerial Target, which is designed to emulate subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles for Developmental and Operational Testing of major DoD weapon systems, as well as fleet training events. The BQM-177A target is currently in production, and this role leads the technical assessment of production deliveries, executes software and hardware improvement ECPs, and performs sustainment activities such as Reliability & Maintainability metrics and Engineering Investigations. Work is a local hybrid requiring on-site presence at NAS Pax and U.S. Government facilities with access to SIPR spaces.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing technical guidance and decisions regarding production, platform upgrades, and unique threat payloads in close coordination with the OEM, sub-system suppliers, and NAVAIR/external entities.

- Management, system specification revisions, and risk management via the NAVAIR ISEEv2 tool.
- Generating and releasing Interim Flight Clearances (IFCs) for Test & Evaluation and fleet operations, and preparing and releasing operator’s manuals with supporting data packages.
- Developing Statements of Work, managing system interfaces, coordinating configuration requirements, and supporting Program Management Reviews and Technical Reviews.
- Providing engineering analysis to support technical and financial proposals for engineering change proposals (ECPs) and technical plans in support of POM issue sheets.
- Quarterly travel required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university.
- 7+ years of general engineering experience
- 2+ years of recent and relevant systems engineering experience.
- Must possess a strong understanding of core systems concepts, including ECPs, flight clearance processes, general system safety products, software development, risk, and requirements management.
- Must demonstrate strong communication skills, technical writing abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior aerial target experience is highly valued, though not required as PMX-208 will provide familiarization.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating closely with Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, or external agencies.
- Experience working across various acquisition timelines and evaluating technical or financial proposals.
Clearance Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess and maintain an active Secret Clearance or higher.
Physical Requirements:

The projected compensation range for this position is $116,400.00-$194,900.00. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
