About the Role Hesston College seeks an experienced and service-focused professional to serve as Systems Engineer. This role reports to the director of information technology and will support the college’s on-premise and cloud infrastructure ensuring reliable, secure systems that serve academic, administrative and residential technology needs across campus. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site, benefits eligible position. What You'll Do
- Design and manage Windows/Linux environments, virtualization platforms and identity/access systems.
- Support cloud and hybrid environments, including migrations and optimization.
- Oversee backups, disaster recovery, monitoring and system performance.
- Implement secure configurations and support FERPA/GLBA compliance.
- Provide tier‑2/3 support and collaborate with ERP, LMS and CRM system owners.
- Maintain documentation and participate in on‑call rotations.
- Occasional evening/weekend maintenance. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, computer science, engineering or equivalent experience. Experience in higher education is preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience with enterprise systems engineering.
- Strong experience with Windows/Linux servers, virtualization and identity management.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP), backup solutions and monitoring tools.
- Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
- ERP/LMS support, SAN/NAS storage or research computing experience.
- Certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Red Hat).
- Knowledge of configuration management (Action1, SCCM, Intune), IaC and networking fundamentals.
- Strong communication and customer‑service focus.
