We deliver prime systems integration projects which build, develop and support military solutions for Defence. The team focuses on leveraging our local engineering, our services expertise, and global products to bring new capabilities to the Australian Defence Force.

The Opportunity As a Systems Administrator, you will play a key role in supporting a strategically important Defence capability that delivers technical staffing and specialist expertise across three interconnected Tactical Data Link (TDL) and network engineering projects. Supporting Joint Command and Control (JC2) and Joint Data Network (JDN) environments, you will contribute to the delivery of critical testing, interoperability, accreditation, and network design activities that enable Defence operational effectiveness.

• Support and administer enterprise Windows Server, Linux, virtualisation, and VDI environments that underpin Tactical Data Link, platform, and software testing activities across a multi-project Defence program.
• Maintain and enhance critical infrastructure technologies including Active Directory, VMware ESX, Hyper-V, Omnissia Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, storage, backup, and recovery solutions to ensure secure, reliable, and resilient service delivery.
• Collaborate with Defence stakeholders, technical specialists, vendors, and project teams to support TDL interoperability requirements, Joint Data Network capabilities, Link 16 network design activities, and ongoing technology refresh and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to infrastructure projects, disaster recovery exercises, cyber security compliance activities, and operational support functions while working within a highly secure environment aligned to Whole of Australian Government ICT security requirements and Defence accreditation frameworks.

About You We are looking for a technology professional who enjoys working in secure and complex ICT environments where reliability, collaboration, and technical expertise directly contribute to Defence capability outcomes. You will bring a customer-focused approach, sound systems administration experience, and the ability to work across a diverse technology landscape supporting mission-critical networks and services.

Essential

• Experience supporting and administering Microsoft Windows Server and Linux environments within complex enterprise ICT environments.
• Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and multi-domain environments, including administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience maintaining and supporting enterprise server, desktop, and infrastructure platforms within medium to large organisations.
• Capability in administering and supporting Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESX environments, including virtual machine provisioning, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting Omnissia Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or similar virtual desktop infrastructure technologies.
• Experience with enterprise storage, backup, and recovery solutions, ideally including NetApp storage and Veeam Backup & Replication.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across infrastructure, virtualisation, and end-user computing environments.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers, technical teams, and Defence stakeholders.
• Understanding of Whole of Australian Government ICT security requirements, ACSC Information Security Manual (ISM) controls, cyber assurance frameworks, and secure operating environments.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team supporting multiple projects and competing priorities.

Advantageous

• Experience with containerisation technologies, including Docker and container management platforms.
• Capability in PowerShell scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual administration activities.
• Knowledge of thin client technologies and virtual desktop environments.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM) or related endpoint management solutions.
• Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching, firewall technologies, and secure network operations.
• Exposure to Tactical Data Link, Defence networking, interoperability testing, systems integration, or secure communications environments.
• ITIL Foundation certification or a comparable IT Service Management qualification.
• Microsoft certifications such as Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent.
• Citrix Certified Associate (CCA) certification or a higher-level Citrix accreditation.

This position requires a minimum NV2 Security Clearance.
