More than a career - a chance to make a difference in people's lives.

Build an exciting, rewarding career with us – help us make a difference for millions of people every day. Consider joining the Duke Energy team, where you'll find a friendly work environment, opportunities for growth and development, recognition for your work, and competitive pay and benefits.

Position Summary: This position owns the hardware, software, and head-end interface equipment required to operate Duke Energy Florida's (DEF) Demand Response (DR) programs and associated system architecture. The role is primarily accountable for the reliable operation, monitoring, and continuous support of DEF's Load Management Control (LMC) system and serves as the designated system owner and primary power user for the LMC platform — with responsibility for system functionality, configuration oversight, environment management (development, training, and production), release coordination, and integration support across internal and external stakeholders and vendors.

The position is both an operator and a builder: it combines day-to-day production support of a mission-critical real-time control system with ongoing software engineering, scripting, and modernization of internal DR tooling. A portion of this work includes building and maintaining third-party API integrations with DR vendors and connected-device OEMs (e.g., EnergyHub, Itron, Rheem, Google Nest) that support program enrollment, device telemetry, customer notifications, and event dispatch. During grid events and other time-sensitive operational periods, the role provides on-call production support and is authorized to make real-time system and configuration decisions to maintain safety, reliability, and program performance.

Scope of Systems Supported:

The role supports the software components and control applications used for all DEF Demand Response programs across Residential, Commercial, and Industrial customers. Support spans event controls, customer notifications, associated data management, and meter read card production, as well as maintaining system configurations, updating control logic and scripts, supporting interfaces with metering and communications systems, and ensuring accurate data flows across applications.

The role also supports third-party API integrations with DR vendors and connected-device OEMs — including EnergyHub, Itron, Salesforce, Rheem, and Google Nest — that enable program enrollment, device-level telemetry, customer notifications, and event dispatch for devices participating in DEF's DR programs. Support spans cloud-to-cloud integrations, authentication and token management, data exchange validation, error handling, and ongoing monitoring of connection health.

This role also provides operational support and technical guidance to the Energy Control Center (ECC) for all aspects of the LMC system prior to and during system deployment — including system readiness activities, real-time event support, and System Operator training. The position oversees message delivery through the LMC notification system to ensure situational awareness of program status during control events, including activation of the General Load Reduction Plan (GLRP).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Platform Operations, Integrations, and Support: Integrate and maintain third-party API connections with DR vendors and OEM partners (e.g., EnergyHub, Itron, Salesforce, Rheem, Google Nest); provide technical support and guidance to internal teams and vendors; support system integrations and data flows across platforms; coordinate and execute controlled production changes. Assist the ECC with system deployment support and operator enablement.

  • Serve as core system owner and power user of the LMC and DR software; manage release activities across dev/training/production environments, including testing, deployments, and rollback planning. Develop, maintain, and support system logic, scripts, configurations, and internal automation/tooling (e.g., Python-based) used for demand response events, operational workflows, and data processes.

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain DR real-time system software, databases, and telecommunications infrastructure supporting the LMC system, ensuring availability, performance, and accurate execution during operationally critical periods.

  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance of the load management transmission and communications infrastructure to ensure continuous, reliable operation of the DEF load management system.
