Job title: Switchboard Operator

About the Role Switchboard Operator serves as the first point of contact for callers, providing courteous, efficient, and accurate telephone and information services to support the University's communication flow. This role routes calls, relays messages, and handles general inquiries with professionalism to contribute to a positive customer service experience.

What You'll Do

• Operate the University’s main switchboard and respond to a high volume of incoming calls to answer, screen, and route calls promptly and professionally.
• Provide accurate information regarding campus departments, services, hours of operation, and personnel.
• Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and follow all communication protocols.
• Receive and relay messages accurately to students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Monitor and update campus directory information in accordance with university policies.
• Assist with emergency communication procedures, following established guidelines.
• Support administrative tasks such as data entry and maintaining call logs when needed.
• Collaborate with HR, IT, and departmental personnel to ensure switchboard information remains current.
• Other duties assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage high call volumes with patience and professionalism.
• Proficiency with phone/switchboard systems and basic office software.
• Ability to multitask, remain calm under pressure, and handle inquiries efficiently.
• Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in a call center, reception, or switchboard role.
• Familiarity with higher education or campus environments.
• Basic understanding of administrative support practices.
