Job title: Surgical Tech II
About the Role The Surgical Tech II supports the operating room team by preparing supplies for cases, maintaining the sterile field, and passing instruments to the surgeon. This role maintains instrument care and supports multiple surgical specialties in an acute care setting to ensure safe, efficient surgical care.
What You'll Do
- Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and reports suspected violations.
- Maintains aseptic technique according to Surgical Services policies.
- Anticipates surgeon’s needs by reviewing preference cards, procuring appropriate supplies prior to start of case, and monitoring case progression.
- Prepares supplies, room setup and equipment for cases; maintains orderly instrument table and sterile field.
- Verifies and labels medications and irrigations on the back table with nurse.
- Maintains and documents accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the nurse.
- Accurately identifies surgical specimens and transfers them to the nurse.
- Prepares instruments for cleaning and re-sterilization.
- Assists with putting away supplies and room turnover.
- Provides leadership for projects at unit level to correct safety/clinical quality deficiencies.
What We're Looking For
- Education: Required high school diploma, GED or higher if hired after January 1, 2025; successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology training program OR five (5) years of additional Surgical Technologist experience in lieu of completion of training program.
- Licensure/Certification: Required certification as a Surgical Technologist if hired after January 1, 2025; American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience: Required two (2) years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute multi-specialty environment, evidencing independent performance in a variety of surgical specialties.
- Skills/Abilities: Ability to communicate with patients and staff; scrub for procedures; take call independently; aseptic technique; knowledge of OR emergency situations; critical thinking; knowledge of surgical environment and sterile field containment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $30.59 - $46.48 per hour
- Hours: 40 per week
