About the Role This role assumes a visible leadership role and is responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities for inpatient units at Logan Health. Acts as the on-site administrator after normal business hours with authority for administrative decisions and notification of the Administrator On Call. Focuses on evaluating quality and effectiveness of patient care, clinical judgment, productivity, staffing, and education.
What You'll Do
- Oversee patient care and administrative activities and care delivery for inpatient units; maintain a house-wide perspective and make decisions based on needs of all units.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals per HR guidelines; provide regular feedback to employees.
- In partnership with leadership, contribute to hiring, corrective action, and termination decisions; conduct orientation and investigations as requested; communicate feedback to staff.
- Coordinate routine flow of scheduled, direct, and emergency admissions to maximize capacity and improve satisfaction for patients, families, and referring providers.
- Collaborate with unit leaders and staff across departments to promote efficient shift operations.
- Assess available staffing resources for each unit considering census, acuity, unscheduled absences, and skill levels; call in, redeploy, reassign, or downsize as needed.
- Provide daily oversight of staff and patient care; ensure delivery of care in compliance with policies and procedures.
- Make administrative decisions in the absence of the Administrative Team; communicate with the Administrative Team and Administrator On Call.
- Coordinate organizational response during times of high census; prioritize care and maximize throughput with Administration and support services.
- Respond to on-site emergencies (Code Blue, Stroke, Rapid Response) and act as a clinical resource.
- Coordinate care for employees and visitors who are ill or injured during non-business hours; participate in post-fall huddles.
- Investigate patient/visitor occurrences; provide counseling, mentoring, and service recovery; inform Risk Management and/or patient advocate as needed.
- Develop, revise, and ensure compliance with hospital/departmental policies and standards; serve as a role model and leadership resource.
What We're Looking For
- Current Montana RN License or a multi-state compact license with authorization to practice nursing in Montana; required.
- BSN degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ recent acute care nursing experience required.
- RQI Provider (BLS) within 7 days if hire/transfer or before independent patient care, whichever comes first; required.
- ACLS within 6 months of hire/transfer; required.
- PALS within 6 months of hire/transfer; required.
- Minimum of one (1) year leadership required.
- Possess medical/clinical knowledge and technical skills for respective department(s)/unit(s) required.
- Self-starter with ability to mentor, coach, support, and assist staff; promote excellence through setting high standards and quality outcomes.
- Ability to act with integrity, kindness, and exhibit empathy.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to handle confidential situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software as needed.
Nice to Have
- BSN degree preferred (reinforces leadership and clinical scope).
