Job title: Substitute Instructional Assistant - (General)
About the Role Columbus City Schools is seeking Substitute Instructional Assistants to support teachers and administrators in supervising students and delivering educational services. This role helps create a positive learning environment and assists with classroom and school-wide activities.
What You'll Do
- Assist the building administrator and teacher in supervising students and performing general building duties.
- Work cooperatively with staff to develop and implement educational programs and services for students.
- Help maintain order and discipline in the school building and on grounds; supervise behavior in hallways, lunchrooms, and on the playground.
- Restrain and/or transport disturbed students when necessary using non-offensive verbal or physical mediation skills.
- Assist in preparing classroom materials and in the supervision of students in various settings, including isolation rooms or time-out areas.
- Support students with self-help skills and independence (toileting, snacks, dressing, grooming, preparing materials to go home).
- Accompany individuals or small groups of students to other locations within the building.
What We're Looking For
- An Associate's degree or 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours from an accredited institution, OR pass the Ohio Parapro exam and possess a high school diploma or GED.
- If pursuing Parapro, you may contact ETS or OSU for exam details; official transcripts or degree documentation must be attached.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and build positive relationships with students, parents, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Must be able to obtain an Educational Aide Permit and pass fingerprint/background checks in accordance with Ohio law.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $20.49 hourly.
- Benefits include medical and dental coverage, vision, Employee Assistance Program, life insurance starting at $50,000, and pet insurance. Substitutes may be eligible for promotion to permanent positions when available.
