Job title: Substitute Early Childhood Teacher
About the Role Substitute Early Childhood Teacher at Connecticut College provides coverage when the regular teacher is unavailable. The role supports children's development, quickly interprets lesson plans, and records student progress to inform the permanent teacher.
What You'll Do
- Supervise and support classroom activities; manage behavior; interpret lesson plans; create reports on student progress for the permanent teacher.
- Plan and implement educational programs addressing developmental needs; maintain attendance and daily records; plan appropriate snacks; prepare assessments and reports as appropriate.
- Evaluate children using observational and standardized measures; participate in placement planning; maintain a safe and organized classroom environment.
- Collect data for research projects and assist with future placement planning.
- Coordinate with staff and supervise aides; communicate with Program Director, Laboratory Coordinator, and teachers; attend meetings; contribute to a positive professional work environment.
- Maintain regular contact with parents; conduct home visits when appropriate; participate in parent conferences and educational functions.
- Participate in Planning and Placement Team meetings and case management; provide recommendations for future placements.
- Supervise and evaluate practicum participants; provide feedback to administration and students about practicum and written assignments.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field; CT State Teacher Education Certification and/or Master’s Degree preferred.
- Within four months of hire, eligible for unsupervised access to children in a CT child care center.
- Minimum of one year working with young children.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations; ability to collaborate with faculty and families.
Nice to Have
- Master’s Degree or CT Certification preferred.
- Experience with nursery school or special education settings.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $23.80 per hour.
- Benefits: Not eligible for benefits.
- On-call/temporary position; 52 weeks per year.
