Job title: Substation Mechanic I-Senior
About the Role The Substation Mechanic role is responsible for routine and emergency maintenance, inspection, and repair of substation equipment within Entergy's Safety Rules. The position supports installation, operation, and maintenance of switching stations and related facilities, with opportunities at levels Substation Mechanic I–Sr based on qualifications.
What You'll Do
- Perform diagnostic testing of substation equipment including breakers, transformers, batteries, cables, and related devices.
- Perform substation switching and grounding procedures.
- Install, maintain, repair, operate and remove switching station and substation equipment.
- Maintain switching stations, substation buildings, structures and grounds, including customers' installations.
- Inspect, adjust, maintain, test, repair or replace circuit breakers and gang operated disconnecting switches, batteries, power transformers, power rectifiers, and station type regulators.
- Perform wiring and maintenance work in substations.
- Be available for 24-hour call out and extended hours as necessary.
- Read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and construction drawings.
- Collaborate as a dependable team member and adhere to safety and training requirements.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferred.
- Substation Mechanic levels with progression: I (0-2 years without an Associate's), II (2-4 years without an Associate's), III (4+ years without an Associate's), Sr (6+ years without an Associate's); with Associate's degree corresponding years (I: 0-1, II: 1-3, III: 3+?, Sr: 5+).
- Understanding of mechanical concepts; ability to read electrical diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, manuals, and construction drawings.
- Proficient in MS Office; dependable, reliable, team-oriented; strong interpersonal and communication skills; self-motivated with decision-making ability.
- Willingness to work extended hours and be available for 24-hour call out.
- CDL operator's license or the ability to obtain; ability to operate all department vehicles and equipment.
- EEI CAST Test recommended; DOT medical certification preferred.
