Subject Matter Expert (Support&Ops) - VMware NSX

About this role

About the Role HCL Technologies is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (Support & Ops) with deep VMware NSX expertise to design, implement, and troubleshoot NSX-V/NSX-T, virtual networking, and related services. The role spans architecture, security, and operations to deliver robust virtualization networking solutions. What You'll Do

  • Hands-on experience with VMware NSX (NSX-V and NSX-T) and other VMware products; implement and troubleshoot DFW and load balancers.

  • Complete understanding of NSX-V/NSX-T architecture, components, and host preparation steps; strong knowledge of VXLAN/GENEVE overlay tunnels; TEP, ARP, MAC tables and handling of BUM traffic.

  • Expertise in Logical Switching, VNI, distributed logical routing, Bridging, and Edge Service Gateway; knowledge of L4/L7 load balancing, IPsec, and L2 VPN; SNAT/DNAT; and load balancer topology (inline or one-armed).

  • Security and firewall architecture: distributed firewall/gateway firewall with policies, rules, groups, services, and profile contexts; NSX intelligence, alarms, events, NSX Federation; stretched segments and Tier-0/Tier-1 routing.

  • Troubleshooting NSX-related issues; experience with VROps, VRLI, VRNI; CLI tools and Linux/UNIX utilities (e.g., WireShark) and general system/network troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MP-BGP, MPLS); switching technologies (STP, VPC, VSS, VDC, OTV, TRILL, FabricPath); Nexus switches; OS and Cisco UCS.

  • Collaboration with stakeholders; documentation; project planning; and leadership. What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on NSX-V/NSX-T experience, architecture understanding, and DFW/load balancer implementation.

  • Strong knowledge of VXLAN/GENEVE, TEP/ARP/MAC handling, and distributed routing/bridging with Edge components.

  • Experience with NSX Intelligence, alarms/events, and NSX Federation; basic knowledge of stretched segments and Tier-0/1 routing; SNAT/DNAT and inline/one-armed load balancers.

  • Proficiency with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MP-BGP) and MPLS; switching (STP, VPC, VSS, VDC, OTV, TRILL, FabricPath); Nexus family switches; ASR/Cisco UCS.

  • Strong Linux/UNIX CLI skills; WireShark; ability to document and communicate effectively; stakeholder management.

  • Nice to Have

  • Understanding of Nexus 5k/2k/7k/9k switches would be an added advantage.
