About the Role Mercy University's NYS HEOP (Tier1) student worker supports HEOP students as a peer tutor-counselor during the summer program, participating in training and providing tutoring to build trust and academic success. This is a part-time, 5-week assignment (25 hours per week) based in Dobbs Ferry, NY. What You'll Do
- Participate in ongoing training sessions conducted by the Project Director and Assistant Director prior to the beginning of the summer program or academic year
- Attend classes and eat lunch with HEOP students to develop trust and rapport
- Serve as role models for HEOP students
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to students
- Assist the summer program faculty in the classroom
- Meet with faculty and HEOP professional counselors to discuss academic problems that individual students may have
- Participate in select HEOP staff meetings
- Provide written reports of student progress and submit these to the Associate Director What We're Looking For
- Upper-class students with a demonstrated capacity for academic success
- GPA of 3.0 or better
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, and oral and written communication skills
- Preference will be given to current HEOP juniors and seniors who have already exhibited their ability to confront and overcome problems that HEOP first-year students and sophomores face Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $17.00 per hour
- Program duration: 25 hours per week for 5 weeks (summer program)
