About this role

About the Role Stevenson University Online (SUO) seeks a Student Success Coach (SSC) to provide proactive academic and holistic support for online students, focusing on retention, success, and timely degree completion. The SSC manages an advising portfolio, guiding students on course selection, academic planning, majors and careers, academic progress, and university policies, and collaborates with faculty, staff, and external constituencies in SUO advising, retention, and recruiting efforts.

What You'll Do

  • Provide effective, regular, responsive, and proactive academic advising to assigned portfolio of new, continuing, re-admitted, and re-instated SUO students (advisees) to ensure retention and timely progress toward graduation.
  • Monitor advisees' progress and take appropriate actions on attendance verification, early alerts, grades, readmission, registration, SAP appeals, and progression toward completion/graduation.
  • Help advisees understand degree requirements and develop long-term academic plans using Student Planning; assist with registering for courses as needed.
  • Connect advisees to university resources and serve as a liaison to internal and external resources and constituencies.
  • Cross-train to provide general academic support for all SUO programs and serve as a backup to SUO SSCs as requested.
  • Support planning and delivery of SUO new student orientation; participate in SUO and university events related to recruiting, alumni relations, and orientation.
  • Collaborate with SUO and University colleagues to design and deliver activities and programming meeting online SUO students’ academic, career, and other needs.
  • Maintain confidential records, collect data, and prepare reports as directed.
  • Support SUO operations, events, and initiatives as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student personnel/development, or related field, plus 3 years of experience in an educational setting performing student advising; equivalent combination considered.
  • Experience supporting online students in the college environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, multitasking, troubleshooting, decision-making, counseling, conflict mediation, and deadline management.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to student advisement, retention issues, trends, and programs; understanding of FERPA and student records regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, cultural competency, and networking skills; ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of constituencies; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, student records systems, early alert monitoring systems, social media and web communications, and database systems; comfort with data handling and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to learn; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed; ability to travel as needed.

  • Experience implementing effective educational assessment practices.
