Student Shadow Program & Internship Opportunities

About the Role Altru Health System offers a suite of student opportunities designed to help individuals explore healthcare careers through shadowing, volunteering, and placement programs. Shadowing experiences, internships, and volunteer opportunities provide real-world exposure and a structured process to manage placements and EHR access. The program is open to students, with shadowing available to individuals aged 16 and older. What You'll Do

• Shadow healthcare professionals for 2–4 hours across clinical and non-clinical areas and participate in a career observation experience.
• Submit a Career Observation Request Form and review the Career Observation Orientation Packet to prepare for your shadowing experience.
• Engage with the Student Access and Placement Portal for rotations/learning experiences, track requests, and await approval.
• If participating in Advanced Practice Provider placement, follow the defined steps for rotation requests and deadlines; coordinators will set up rotations on your behalf; direct preceptor contact is not required.
• Learn about program options including High School Summer Internships, Junior Volunteer Program, Scrubs Camp, and the Student Volunteer Program, and how to access these opportunities via the careers and volunteer pages.
• For school representatives and clinical education teams, understand portal responsibilities such as data entry, monitoring requests, assigning education, and answering questions. What We're Looking For
• Age 16 or older for shadowing opportunities.
• Interest in healthcare careers and willingness to participate in observation, volunteering, or placement activities.
• Ability to complete required forms and adhere to influenza vaccination status reporting during influenza season (August–April).
• Strong communication and organization to navigate the Student Access and Placement Portal and associated processes. Nice to Have
• Interest in hands-on learning experiences and programs such as internships or camps that explore healthcare careers.
