About the Role A part-time student researcher in the Catalyst Design and Development on Carbon Dioxide Conversion project in Dr. Cheng Zhang's lab at LIU Post. The role focuses on catalyst synthesis and in-situ characterization of materials for CO2 conversion to value-added chemicals and fuels. The successful candidate will support synthesis, testing in a flow-bed reactor and an autoclave high‑pressure reactor, and analysis of catalyst properties using standard analytical instruments.

What You'll Do

• Conduct catalyst synthesis using various synthetic techniques.
• Perform catalyst testing using a flow-bed reactor and a high‑pressure autoclave reactor for CO2 conversion.
• Characterize catalysts using GC‑MS, NMR, UV‑Vis, and FTIR to understand properties.
• Assist in data collection, analysis, and interpretation; document procedures and ensure a safe, clean workspace.
• Work independently and in multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality results within aggressive timelines.

What We're Looking For

• Basic knowledge in catalysis, skills in catalyst synthesis, and hands-on experience with catalyst testing.
• Experience using basic analytical instruments such as GC‑MS, NMR, UV‑Vis, and FTIR.
• Must be enrolled as a full‑time student in a degree‑granting program; minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA.
• Experience reading and interpreting peer‑reviewed journal articles; proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Demonstrated excellence in catalyst synthesis and characterization supported by a strong publication record; excellent writing and presentation skills; troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities; attention to detail; commitment to a safe and clean work environment.
• Ability to work independently and in multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver results within aggressive timelines.

• Took chemistry course CHM3 at LIU.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $17 per hour; Hours per week: 11; Start date: As soon as possible; FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt; Application Deadline: Oct 30, 2026.
