Position Title: Student Assistant – Wellness Programming

Department: Mental Health Services

Reports To: Director of Wellness and Mental Health Services

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mental Health Services Student Assistant for Wellness Programming & Events will support the development and implementation of wellness and mental health programming for Schreiner University students. Working closely with Claire Arnold, the Director of Wellness and Mental Health Services, this position will assist with planning campus events, connecting with campus partners, promoting wellness initiatives, and creating engaging opportunities for students to learn about and participate in mental health and wellness activities.

This position is ideal for a student who enjoys event planning, creativity, communication, and helping build a positive and supportive campus community. This position does not provide mental health treatment or advice to students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with planning and coordinating wellness and mental health events and programs on campus.
  • Help brainstorm engaging programming based on student interests and campus needs.
  • Assist with communicating and coordinating with campus partners, student organizations, faculty, staff, and community organizations as directed.
  • Help contact campus partners and coordinate logistics for events.
  • Assist with scheduling spaces, gathering supplies, preparing materials, and coordinating event details.
  • Help with event setup, registration, welcoming participants, and cleanup.
  • Assist with creating and distributing promotional materials, flyers, social media content, and other outreach materials in coordination with appropriate campus offices.
  • Help maintain calendars and planning documents for wellness programming.
  • Create and post social media content for Mental Health Services
  • Assist with collecting informal feedback from students about programs and events.
  • Help organize wellness resources and materials for distribution to students.
  • Assist the Director with special projects related to student wellness, mental health awareness, prevention, and campus engagement.
  • Perform other duties related to wellness programming as assigned.
  • Refer students seeking counseling, crisis support, or other clinical assistance to the Director, Timely Care, or the appropriate professional or campus resource rather than attempting to provide support independently.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Current Schreiner University undergraduate student eligible for work-study employment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong people skills
  • Comfortable communicating with faculty, staff, students, and campus/community partners
  • Creative and enthusiastic about developing student programming
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating with a team
  • Experience with event planning, social media, graphic design, marketing, or student organizations is preferred but not required
  • Interest in mental health, wellness, health promotion, or student engagement is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Canva is preferred

IMPORTANT BOUNDARIES OF THE POSITION

This is a non-clinical student support position. The student employee will not provide counseling, crisis intervention, mental health assessments, clinical advice, or other mental health services. Student employees will receive guidance regarding appropriate boundaries, privacy, and procedures for directing students to professional resources.
