About this role

About the Role The Center for Multicultural Services at the University of La Verne is seeking a Student Assistant to support programs that promote inclusion and cultural enrichment across the campus. The role provides general office support, coordinates program activities, and helps develop cultural competency within the university community.

What You'll Do

  • General office duties: receptionist, data entry, creating brochures, flyers, filing, photocopying, tabling, social media support, and helping keep the Center orderly.
  • Program or workshop coordination: assist with publicity, posting flyers, outreach, gathering supplies, setup and takedown; support cultural clubs and first-generation programs; participate on student panels for visiting prospective students.
  • Participate in Diversity Retreats and other trainings to build cultural competency and facilitation skills.
  • Assist in supporting the Black and Latinx Scholars Living Learning Communities.
  • Support the Access Program efforts.
  • Research support: data entry for evaluations, identifying scholarship, fellowship and leadership opportunities; perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Basic understanding or interest in human relations, diversity, equity, and social justice issues, with a commitment to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and follow University policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Responsible demeanor and reliable attendance.
  • General computer literacy; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Canva, GivePulse, Handshake, SurveyMonkey, Flickr, Qualtrics, PowerPoint, and other software; ability to maintain a database.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work in a team; must be a ULV student and recipient of Federal Work Study; willingness to learn on the job.
  • Must be a ULV student.

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience working with first-generation college students and families; experience facilitating human relations/diversity/equity/social justice trainings.
  • Experience serving historically marginalized communities; ability to connect with all students with empathy, love and compassion.
  • Customer service experience; social media advertising and event promotion; graphic design experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Paid Sick Leave: One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 24 hours per year and capped at 48 hours.
  • University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan with voluntary employee contributions.
  • ACA medical coverage eligibility for employees working an average of 30+ hours per week.
