About this role
The Storekeeper is responsible for ordering and stock control of spare parts and supplies. Also responsible for supervision of non-skilled workers and local Day Crew, the Storekeeper plays a vital role in running the Engineering department.
What you will contribute
Technical
- Maintain the inventory of spare parts and consumables for the Technical departments
- Create requisitions for re-ordering as necessary and submit them for approval
- Receive spare parts and supplies onboard from suppliers’ scheduled shipping containers into the inventory management system, and store them in the correct locations
- Advise appropriate personnel within the department of the delivery of spare parts and supplies
- Maintain the onboard labeling, bar-code system, and associated equipment
- Scheduled inventory of spare parts of supplies
Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
- Follow all safety measures as defined in the company Safety Management System.
- Participate in regular drills and join emergency teams as required by the Safety Officer
- Report non-conformities, accidents involving personnel or vessel, and hazardous occurrences to the Company.
Maritime Crew Leadership
- Oversee the work of the Assistant Storekeepers
- Oversee the supervision of day crew
Mission Support
- Share in the support and furtherance of the Christian community through lifestyle and exhortation.
For This Role, You Will Need
STCW Certifications
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/1 Basic Training
- Certificate of Proficiency in accordance with STCW VI/6-1 Security Awareness
- Certificate of Examination in accordance with STCW I/9 Medical Fitness and Minimum In-Service Eyesight

Administrative
- Competent in Windows, Microsoft Office Programs.
- Experience in computer software used for inventory and control preferred
- Experience with the Company planned maintenance system is preferred but not essential
- Ability to communicate proficiently in English in both written and verbal forms
Skills and Competencies
- Mechanical aptitude and basic tool handling skills
- Strong sense of discipline, cleanliness, and attention to detail
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures precisely
- Good physical condition; capable of working in high-heat and enclosed spaces
- Team player with a positive attitude toward learning and development
Education and Experience
- Successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding Program for commitments of 12 months or longer
- Background in warehousing, inventory, and stock control required. Strong preference for technical/mechanical inventory
- Background in project management a plus
